Meyer asked if players would kneel during anthem

COLUMBUS – Athletes in various sports are either kneeling during the playing of the national anthem before game, or at least being asked about it, and the Ohio State Buckeyes are no exception.

Buckeye head coach Urban Meyer was asked Monday if any Ohio State players were planning to do the same and said the team had discussed it, but not at length.

“We’re addressed it, some of the issues going across this country in the summer, with the players and a couple of the coaches spoke,” Meyer said. “We certainly respect their rights as a citizen of this great country. That has not come up to me.”

“If it does, we’ll have a chat about it,” he said.

Miami Dolphins receiver Kenny Stills and safety Michael Thomas knelt with their hands over their hearts during the playing of “The Star-Spangled Banner” before their Thursday night game against the Bengals, joining San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick in a statement aimed at calling attention to what the players call racial injustice in the country.

Cleveland Cavaliers superstar LeBron James says he plans to stand during the national anthem, but he supports Kaepernick’s decision.
