Meyer Coach of Year three times

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Buckeye head coach Urban Meyer won his third Coach of the Year honor Monday, being named the Rawlings 2014 Football Bowl Subdivision Coach of the Year.

The honor is awarded in association with American Football Monthly.

Meyer was named The Dispatch Ohio College Coach of the Year Sunday and the Phil Steele Coach of the Year last week.

Under Meyer’s leadership, Ohio State won the first-ever College Football Playoff with victories over No. 1 Alabama, 42-35, in the Allstate Sugar Bowl and, 42-20, over No. 2 Oregon in the College Football Playoff National Championship game.

The remarkable run came after the team had fallen into the 20s in the national rankings early in the year and after climbing from No. 16 in the first College Football Playoff poll into the four-team playoff following a 59-0 victory over Wisconsin in the Big Ten championship game.

Ohio State’s 14-1 record this season tied the NCAA record for wins in a season and, in the process, Ohio State became the first team to defeat four 11-win teams in one season (11-2 Michigan State, 11-3 Wisconsin, 12-2 Alabama and 13-2 Oregon).
