Meyer takes back the reins

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Ryan Day did a nice acting job for still-undefeated and fourth-ranked Ohio State.

The Buckeyes won all three of their games with their offensive coordinator also serving as acting head coach.

They passed their biggest test with a win over TCU in the last game of coach Urban Meyer’s three-game suspension.

Meyer has been at practice the last two weeks but will be back on the sideline when the 4th-ranked Buckeyes (3-0, 1,0 Big Ten) play their next home game Saturday against Tulane.

In an interview which aired Sunday morning on ESPN — his first since the suspension — Meyer said he was told by both fired assistant coach Zach Smith and Smith’s wife, Courtney, that a 2009 incident in Florida was not abuse.

“Both parties came to see me, I asked about it and I was told it was not domestic violence,” Meyer told Tom Rinaldi.

Meyer apologized for mistakes he said he made in handling the domestic abuse allegations.

Defensive tackle Dre’Mont Jones has been named the Big Ten’s Defensive Player of the Week, as a result of his performance in Saturday night’s 40-28 win over No. 17 TCU.

He made a momentum-swinging interception in the third quarter, running it back for a 28-yard pick-six that gave Ohio State a 26-21 lead.

The Cleveland native also had a career-high six tackles, including two tackles for loss, one pass breakup and one sack.
