COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer says he had a somewhat serious conversation with assistant Anthony Schlegel after the former linebacker tossed a fan to the turf when the man ran onto the Ohio Stadium field during Saturday’s game, but the team has also had fun with the episode.
The big hit has been a sensation on social media.
“I appreciate him protecting our players. I would rather him not have a lawsuit if something bad would happen, you drill a guy like that. So we had a partial serious conversation,” Meyer said Monday.
The team also gave Schlegel, an assistant strength and conditioning coach, a “Hit City Award.”
The 21-year-old mechanical-engineering student body-slammed to the turf is due in court Tuesday on a criminal-trespassing charge.
Anthony Wunder is slated to appear in Franklin County Municipal Court.
The Columbus Dispatch reports that Wunder is a mechanical-engineering student originally from Cincinnati. Court records didn’t list an attorney for him.
