COLUMBUS – Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer wants at least 100,000 people to come out for Saturday’s spring game.
The LiFE Sports Spring Game, presented by Nationwide (1:30 p.m. April 16, Ohio Stadium/Live on BTN/BTN2Go. Tickets for the spring game can be purchased online, in person at any Ticketmaster outlet and at the OSU Athletic Ticket Office, or by calling 1-800-GOBUCKS. General admission seats are $5 and there are a limited number of reserved club seats available for $15.
Meyer wants his green young players to see what it’s like playing in front of 100,000 fans in the Horseshoe.
“There’s nothing like performing in front of 100,000 people,” he said during his weekly media briefing. “It’s supposed to be great weather so I’m hoping we get 100,000 people. That’s an appeal to our fans to come on out…this year even more than last year.”
Last year, Ohio State set a spring game record with 99,391 fans at the game, a figure that topped its previous national mark of 95,722 fans at the 2009 spring game.
As of noon Friday, 77,000 tickets had been sold for Saturday’s scrimmage.
Greg Schiano will serve as head coach for the scarlet team and Tony Alford will be the gray team head coach.
Junior quarterback J.T. Barrett will be behind center for the scarlet team with redshirt freshman Joe Burrow quarterbacking the gray team. Stephen Collier will play in relief of Barrett.
The group of players that started spring drills is the most inexperienced group of players Meyer has ever coached, with only 39 lettermen are on the roster and a mere six starters, three on either side of the ball.
The forecast for Saturday is for mostly sunny skies and a high of 70 degrees with no chance of participation.
