COLUMBUS – Ohio’s minimum wage workers will not get raises in 2016.
The state’s minimum wage for non-tipped employees will remain unchanged at $8.10 per hour because of a decline in the federal Consumer Price Index, according to the state Department of Commerce.
Tipped employees will still receive $4.05 per hour.
Thanks to a constitutional amendment approved by Ohio voters in 2006, Ohio’s minimum wage is tied to the CPI, which declined 0.3 percent over the 12-month period that ended on August 31.
The minimum wage applies to employees of businesses with annual gross receipts of more than $297,000 per year.
For employees of smaller companies and for 14- and 15-year-olds, the state minimum wage is the same as the federal wage: $7.25 per hour.
