COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – Police estimate about 10,000 people gathered at an Ohio State University lake for the semi-official version of a traditional jump into the water ahead of the rivalry football game against Michigan.
A university spokesman tells WBNS-TV that police arrested five students for disorderly conduct on Tuesday.
Like last year, the school had put up a temporary fence at Mirror Lake and handed out wristbands for those wanting to participate in the tradition. The Columbus Dispatch reports a smaller group of students defied those measures and jumped in early on Monday, but most waited for the traditional Tuesday night splash.
That was a reversal from last year, when the larger crowd stormed the fence to jump in early and only several hundred people showed up for the wristband-regulated version.
