Missing girl, father found in Massachusetts

COLUMBUS, Ohio – A three-year-old girl from the state of Delaware who was the subject of an Amber Alert that extended into Ohio Tuesday was found safe in Massachusetts and police were working to reunite Elinor Trotta with her mother.

Police in New Castle, Del., issued an Amber Alert for Elinor after they say she was kidnapped by her father who assaulted her mother.

While looking for Michael Trotta, 39, and his daughter police said they believed the girl “is in imminent danger.”

The girl’s mother called police Monday night to report that her ex-boyfriend had just come to her home, assaulted her, and took Elinor.

Police believed Trotta may have fled with the girl to New Jersey or New York City but also said they had family in Ohio.

“After an intense and aggressive investigation, detectives were able to locate Elinor and are working to reunite her with her mother,” said a statement posted on the New Castle Police Department website.

Michael Trotta was taken into custody outside of an apartment building in Spencer, Mass., at about 3:30 Tuesday afternoon.

Warrants were out for him stemming from an assault in Delaware on Feb. 15 as well Monday night’s incident which added reckless endangering and carjacking to the list and police say Trotta will also be charged with child endangering and is awaiting extradition.

They said Dawn would fly to Massachusetts with law enforcement officials to be reunited with her daughter.
