Mistaken robber among day’s shooting victims

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Christopher Deeds told he police he wasn’t going to file charges against the man who shot him.

Deeds was injured slightly in the last of four separate shootings in Columbus Monday, one of which left two men dead.

Deeds told officers he forgot to take his ski mask off after he rode his bike to the Food Mart Express, 2714 Sullivant Avenue, just before midnight. Fearing the business was being robbed, employee Mohannad Alhiassha grabbed a handgun and forced Deeds back out of the store and into the parking lot.

Alhiassha told police he thought Deeds might have an accomplice, so he fired the weapon once into the pavement. The bullet ricocheted and grazed Deeds’s left foot. He was treated at the scene and investigators say he declined to pursue charges.

A 15-year-old boy was not so lucky. The teenager was listed in critical condition after being shot by the driver of a dark-colored vehicle that pulled up while the boy was walking with a friend on Brooks Avenue at the intersection with Windsor Avenue just after 5:15 p.m. Police say the driver lowered his car window and fired multiple gunshots, one of them hitting the victim in the back as he attempted to run away.

A 26-year-old man was in stable condition after being shot by a man who tried to force the victim into his own vehicle in the area of 6314 Bush Boulevard shortly after 6:30 p.m., police said. Ali Ali told police he was getting some items out of his vehicle when he was approached by two unknown male blacks. One male produced a handgun and ordered Mr. Ali into his vehicle. He refused and was shot in the stomach.

The two suspects – described only as black males between 25 and 35 years of age – drove away in a newer silver Chrysler 300.
