Mitchell first freshman All-American since 2008

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Buckeye Kelsey Mitchell became just the fourth freshman to ever be named a first team All-American on Tuesday by the United State Basketball Writers of America.

The first freshman to lead the country in scoring at 24.9 points per game, Mitchell is the sixth Ohio State player to earn USBWA All-America accolades joining Jessica Davenport, Tracey Hall, Jantel Lavender, Samantha Prahalis and Katie Smith.

She is the first freshman on the team since Connecticut’s Maya Moore in 2008.

Mitchell scored an Ohio State and Big Ten record 873 points during the 20014-15 season.
