COLUMBUS – A 23-year-old Columbus woman is facing criminal charges in the overdose death of her newborn daughter in April.
A Franklin County grand jury on Tuesday indicted Nina Straty on charges of involuntary manslaughter and child endangering after an autopsy by the Franklin County Coroner’s Office showed the 26-day-old baby died as a result of “acute intoxication by methadone and cocaine,” Homicide Unit Sgt. Dave Sicilian said.

Officers and Columbus Division of Fire paramedics dispatched to a home on Wyandotte Avenue on the morning of April 27 on a report of a baby not breathing and fire personnel began performing CPR. on the Loucia Kinsell but the infant did not survive, Sicilian said.
Straty told police she fell asleep with the baby and when she awoke in the morning, the baby was not breathing, Sicilan said.
The investigation continues, according to Sicilian.
This was recorded as the 126th homicide in Columbus in 2017, the second-highest number of reported homicides in a year in Columbus history.
