COLUMBUS, Ohio – The arrival of snow just in time for the morning rush hour caused traffic accidents and delays and forced several school districts in central Ohio to cancel classes for the day.
A Level 1 Snow Emergency was declared in Pickaway County.
According to the National Weather Service, less than a half inch of new snow fell on the area, but it was enough to make roads slippery, especially in rural areas.
More than 150 City of Columbus and Ohio Department of Transportation snowplows and salt trucks were treating and plowing interstates, U.S. routes, state Routes 33, 104 and 315; arterial streets, bridges, overpasses and inclines.

All area ODOT county garages had crews on duty before the snow began to fall, ODOT District 6 spokeswoman Nancy Burton said.
Forecasters say a second round of snow is due later tonight (see graphic above) and temperatures will stay fairly steady in the mid 20’s throughout today and tonight. A total of about an inch of new snow is possible for both waves.
Tuesday should be mostly cloudy with flurries but temperatures warming into the mid 30’s will help melt some of the ice and snow.
