“Moon Over Miami”: Day plays familiar pre-game tunes

COLUMBUS – No. 6 Ohio State is a heavy favorite over Miami University Saturday, but head coach Ryan Day still plays tracks from the album known as Humble Coaches’ Greatest Hits.

“There’s still a lot to clean up,” he said about his team, which has steamrolled its first three opponents.

The Buckeyes have outscored the other teams on their schedule 138-31, holding their last two opponents — Cincinnati and Indiana – to one touchdown and one field goal but Day continues to play the old standards: not taking an inferior opponent lightly, avoiding a “trap game,” correcting the numerous mistakes the coaches see on the videotape.

“There are so many things that are going to show up as the season goes on that we need to get on right away, we need to get them fixed, and so we’ll do that,” Day told reporters.

So, the Buckeyes will try not to look past the RedHawks with a Big Ten game at Nebraska coming up next week.

Day hopes his team will play an efficient first half so he can get his starters out as soon as possible.

Ohio State will honor 1955 Heisman Trophy winner Howard “Hopalong” Cassady at the game. Cassady died Friday at his home in Florida at age 85.
