Mosquito fogging continues

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The battle against the West Nile virus continues in the streets and alleys of Columbus as fogging trucks target mosquitoes in eight neighborhooods this week.

Columbus Public Health fogging trucks were out in the predawn hours of Tuesday morning in the Far North and Northeast sides. They will be in North Linden Wednesday and in Clintonville, the OSU campus area and South Linden on Thursday.

The fogging operations are carried out between the hours of 4:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m.

One of the areas fogged on Tuesday was bounded by E. Powell Road, Polaris Lakes Drive, Gemini Place and Ellersly Drive. Another was bounded by E. Walnut Street, New Albany Road East, Dublin-Granville Road and Harlem Road. The third was south of Tetlin Field Drive, west of Thompson Park, north of Blaverly Drive and east of N. Hamilton Road.

On Wednesday, trucks will be in an area bounded by Case Road., Walford Avenue, Huy Road and Karl Road and another south of E. Weber Road, west of Atwood Terrace, north of E. Hudson Street and east of I-71.

On Thursday, fogging will be carried out in Clintonville, in the area of E. North Broadway Street, I-71, E. Weber Road and Calumet Street. The other crew will be in an area bounded by E. Patterson Avenue, I-71, E. 17th Avenue and N. High Street. The third area to be fogged is south of E. 25th Avenue, west of Joyce Avenue, north of E. 17TH Avenue and east of Ontario Street.

Columbus Public Health traps mosquitoes, investigates complaints, treats standing water and sprays in areas with high mosquito counts and disease presence to combat the spread of West Nile virus.

The weekly spraying areas are determined by mosquito trap results and reports from field staff. Analysts study the number and type of mosquitoes trapped, the number of infected mosquitoes and consider any evidence of human disease.
