COLUMBUS — Police say a multi-vehicle crash on the North Side early Sunday killed three people and sent five more to the hospital.
Columbus police say four cars were involved in the crash, which happened on I-71 near E. 11th Avenue around 1:30 a.m. Sunday.
Corey Johnson was driving his Pontiac G6 northbound on I-71 when he veered left and struck the median barrier wall, before hitting a Toyota Corolla with Amina Mohamed, Amal Mohamed and Anisa Abdi Karim riding inside, Sgt. Brooke Wilson, of the Accident Investigation Unit, said..
Amal Mohamed and Anisa Abdi Karim were pronounced dead at the scene and Amina Mohamed was taken to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in critical condition.
Wilson says Johnson;s car was hit by a Toyota Camry, which was then struck by a Chevrolet Impala.
The driver of the Camry, Gabriel Reid Akomeah, 34, of Columbus, died at the scene while Wilson said Johnson and his passenger, Raven Shepherd, were hospitalized in critical condition.
Monica Sharpe, who was driving the Impala, and her passenger, Deondra Minor, were both listed in stable condition.
