Murray ousted at Western & Southern Open

MASON (AP) — Andy Murray looked fit but rusty in his first singles match since the Australian Open in January.

Murray underwent hip surgery on Jan. 28, receiving metal implants that helped eliminate the pain that led him to believe his career might be over.

The three-time Grand Slam champion played doubles in several tournaments before trying singles at the Western & Southern Open, where he lost in the first round to Richard Gasquet.

After the match, Murray said he would not play in the U.S. Open.
