Storm brings snow, slush

COLUMBUS – Before the calendar page turns over to February, central Ohio is getting another dose of January weather.

Columbus City Schools were closed and hundreds of others delayed or canceled classes Wednesday.

Accumulations of 2 to 4 inches of wet snow were expected with temperatures near freezing.

More than 200 Ohio Department of Transportation crews in central Ohio were preparing to plow and salt interstates and state and U.S. routes outside of municipalities around the clock, ODOT officials said.

Precipitation will transition over to sleet, then mainly rain for much of the area by Wednesday afternoon, the weather service reported.

A winter storm that brought the wintry precipitation to the Midwest and Northeast also created severe weather on the Gulf Coast.

Winter weather advisories stretched from southern Missouri to Maine, with areas of New England expected to see 8 to 12 inches of snow, the National Weather Service said.
