COLUMBUS – The man who was pulled from Mirror Lake early this morning, as students were gathered for the annual lake jump held before the Ohio State-Michigan football game, phas died, according to a the head of the university’s public safety agency.

“Unfortunately after several hours of medical care, the young man removed from Mirror Lake early this morning has passed away from his injuries. At this time, the university is doing everything it can to identify the deceased, Department of Public Safety Director Vern Baisden said in a statement issued just after 10:00 a.m.
Baisden says the man is African American with a medium build and tattoos on his left upper chest and right upper arm.
City police dispatchers say the man was in cardiac arrest when he was pulled from Mirror Lake just before 12:30 Wednesday morning. Students annually jump into the lake on the Tuesday night before the two universities’ football matchup.
The jump was shut down shortly after the man was taken to the hospital.
The Ohio State-Michigan game will be played Saturday (Noon/ABC).
