National Guard assists area health officials

COLUMBUS – The Ohio National Guard and local health officials in Madison and Union counties are teaming up to offer a weekend of free physicals, lab work, vaccinations, and health screenings for residents who may find it difficult to get to a doctor’s office.

Madison County GuardCare: Saturday, Aug. 5, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.; London High School, 336 Elm St., London
Union County GuardCare: Saturday, Aug. 12, from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 13, from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m.; Union County Health Department, 940 London Ave. No. 1100
Services at both locations will include immunizations, sports physicals, women’s health services, and hearing and vision testing. There are no restrictions or requirements based on income, age, or where you live. No appointment needed.

The Guard and the Union County Health Department are encouraging residents to flood the event because they want to test their ability to respond in a community emergency.

Lab tests that will be performed at the events include cholesterol, blood sugar, and PSA tests for prostate health. There will also be screenings for balance, bone density, heart health, hearing and vision.

There will also be mammograms, breast exams, pap smears, pregnancy tests, colorectal and prostate exams, and STD testing and treatment.

Recommended vaccinations provided include those for chicken pox, diptheria, Hepatitis A and B, HIB, HPV, MMR, meningitis, pertussis, polio and Tetanus.

Through GuardCare, the Ohio National Guard supports and assists local health care providers and helps Guard personnel enhance their skills. Many Ohio National Guard medical personnel work as health care professionals in their civilian occupations.
