COLUMBUS, Ohio – More than 150 community activities are planned for tonight’s observance of the National Night Out crime and drug prevention effort.
From 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., residents are encouraged to turn on their porch lights, go outside and meet their neighborhoods to demonstrate their solidarity in the fight to reduce crime. Live music, cookouts and kid-friendly activities have become part of some communities’ observances.
Begun in 1981, the National Night Out is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch.
From 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., the Genoa Township Police Department will host their annual National Night Out at McNamara Park, behind the Safety Services complex at 7049 Big Walnut Road. The free event which includes music, food, children activities and a special appearance by former Crew star, Frankie Hejduk.
There will also be K9 and safety services demonstrations, med flight, the flashover simulator, smoke house and child ID’s.
