COLUMBUS – The Minnesota Timberwolves took Ohio State forward Keita Bates-Diop with the 48th overall selection in Thursday night’s NBA draft.
He was the Big Ten player of the year.
The Cavaliers selected Alabama guard Collin Sexton with the No. 8 pick, hoping the playmaker might help convince star LeBron James to re-sign with them this summer.
Sexton averaged 19.2 points as a freshman and led the Crimson Tide to the NCAA Tournament.
The Cavs have been in search of a point guard since trading All-Star Kyrie Irving last summer.
James is expected to opt out of his $35.6 million contract for next season and become a free agent.
The Golden State Warriors took Cincinnati’s Jacob Evans with the 28th overall selection. Evans was a finalist for the Julius Erving Small Forward of the Year award
