New mayor takes the oath

COLUMBUS – Ohio’s capital city will get its first new mayor in 16 years a few hours before midnight on New Year’s Eve.

Mayor-elect Andrew Ginther plans his official swearing-in ceremony, Dec. 31 at 6:00 p.m. at the COSI Founder’s Atrium on the first level. He will assume office at midnight.

The brief program, featuring the oath of office and some remarks will be capped with a hot chocolate toast for kids.

The event is scheduled in coordination with the city’s family-friendly First Night Columbus New Year’s celebration. While the swearing-in ceremony is free, admission to First Night festivities requires attendees to purchase a ticket.

Plans have been made for a separate ceremonial swearing-in and free community event to be held Jan. 13 at 6:00 p.m. at the Lincoln Theatre. Additional details will be announced separately.
