NEWARK – Police carrying out a drug raid in Newark Tuesday arrested a suspect in the 2018 murder of his bedridden girlfriend.
Brady Workman, 46, was arrested in connection with the murder of Kelly Barber, 57, of Newark, who was found in her bed on Oct. 22, suffering from severe head trauma, police spokesman Sgt. Clint Eskins said.
Barber was found in the Summit Street home she shared with Workman and was transported to the hospital where she would later die as a result of her injuries, according to an autopsy performed at the Franklin County Coroner’s Office, Eskins said.
Workman, also of Newark, was Barber’s boyfriend and caregiver and was suspected to have caused the injuries, Eskins said.
After the Newark Division of Police and the Central Ohio Drug Task Force received complaints of drug activity at a home on Poplar Avenue, officers executed a search warrant and found narcotics both inside the residence and outside in a vehicle, Eskins said.
Workman was arrested at the home, along with Lane Gibson, 31, of Newark, who was charged with drug possession, Eskins said.
Additional charges, including drug trafficking, will be considered by the Licking County Prosecutor’s Office, Eskins said.
