Newark man dies weeks after fight

NEWARK – A Newark man is in jail on a murder charges in connection with the death of a man who died of complications from an injury he suffered in a fight with the suspect several days earlier.

Michael Stoner, 33, of Newark died at Licking Memorial Hospital on Dec. 18, one day after he checked himself in suffering from injured ribs and pneumonia, Newark Division of Police spokesman Sgt. Clint Eskins said.

An autopsy by the Licking County Coroner’s Office determined the rib injuries had been caused by blunt force trauma during an altercation a few weeks prior to Stoner’s death, Eskins said.

Eskins says numerous individuals told detectives they witnessed the between Stoner and Raymond Inman, which took place on Hudson Avenue in early December.

Detectives identified, Inman, 40, as the primary suspect and he was taken to the Licking County Justice Center after questioning on a charge of Murder, Eskins said.

The case will be forwarded to the Licking County Prosecutor’s Officer for review and possible additional charges.
