Newark middle-schooler charged with making threats

COLUMBUS – A Newark 8th-grader has been charged with making threats after police say he told several classmates of plans to carry out a school shooting.

Staff members at Liberty Middle School contacted Newark police on Tuesday and said that an 8th grade student had made several comments to classmates about shooting other students at the school, said Sgt. Scott Snow, spokesman for the Division of Police.

Staff members say the students confirmed that the student had made detailed comments about shooting other members of the school and the student admitted to making these comments, Snow said.

Detectives made contact with the suspect’s parents, who brought the student to police headquarters for questioning.

The suspect was subsequently placed under arrest for making terroristic threats, Snow said.
