Newark police arrest suspect in June slaying

NEWARK – A Newark man is in jail, charged with murder in the death of a man last month.

Roy Ramsey II is behind bars at the Licking County Justice Center on a murder charge connected with the death on June 19 of Joshua Hayes, Division of Police spokesman Sgt. Clint Eskins said.

Hayes was found at an Isabelle Road address at about 12:30 a.m. by police and fire personnel responding to a report of a possible drug overdose. The 43-year-old Hayes was taken to Licking Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead, Eskins said.

During the course of the autopsy Eskins says it was discovered that Hayes had suffered internal bleeding from blunt force trauma to the body.

After concluding dozens of interviews with individuals who may have had some information on what happened and collecting evidence, detectives arrested the 42-year-old Ramsey.

Eski ns says the case will be forwarded to the Licking County Prosecutor’s Office for review and possible additional charges.
