COLUMBUS – The state reported an unusually small number of new cases of COVID-19, newly reported deaths and current hospitalizations Sunday.
Weekend statistics are often lower than those reported on weekdays.
The seven deaths reported Sunday are markedly lower than the three-week average of 69 while the 2,138 reported cases are also lower than the average of 4,451 average daily reported cases over the previous 21 days.
There were 1,978 Ohioans being treated in hospitals for COVID-19, including 61 newly hospitalized patients reported in the preceding 24 hours, much lower than the three-week daily average of 207.
A total of 920,217 Ohioans have been diagnosed with the virus since the onset of the pandemic in March 2020 and 11,659 have died. The total number of people hospitalized is 47,538.
COVID-19 patients currently occupy 7.28% of the state’s hospital beds.
The seven-day positivity rate has fallen to 7% and there are 84,478 active cases of the disease, the lowest number since Nov. 14.

Ohioans age 65 and older become eligible Monday to receive the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine.
Currently 1.04 million individuals have received the initial dose of the vaccine and 305,068, or 2.6% of the state’s total population, have completed the regimen.
