NFL Draft: Day 2 Browns, Bengals Buckeyes recap

COLUMBUS – On the second day of the NFL draft in Arlington, Texas, Friday night, the Browns looked to replace a legend, the Bengals turned their attention to defense and three more Buckeyes heard their names called.

The Browns addressed their need for a left tackle by selecting Nevada’s Austin Corbett with the first pick in the second round of the NFL draft. Corbett can help offset the loss of 10-time Pro Bowl tackle Joe Thomas, who retired after last season.

They took Georgia running back Nick Chubb two picks later. He rushed for 1,345 yards and 15 touchdowns last season.

The Bengals focused on defense, trading down in the second round to take safety Jessie Bates III from Wake Forest.

They then took Ohio State defensive end Sam Hubbard and linebacker Malik Jefferson from Texas.

Not known for taking Ohio State players in the draft, the Bengals have acquired two from Columbus during the first two days of the draf, taking Buckeye center Billy Price in the first round on Thursday.

Three of the five Ohio State players drafted in the first three rounds are staying in the Buckeye State. The Browns drafted cornerback Denzel Ward with the No. 4 pick in the opening round.

Hubbard’s teammates DE Tyquan Lewis was drafted in the second round by the Indianapolis Colts and LB Jerome Baker was a third-round pick of the Miami Dolphins.
