COLUMBUS — J.T. Barrett threw for 270 yards and two touchdowns and J.K. Dobbins rushed for 172 yards and another pair of scores as No. 8 Ohio State rebounded from last week’s loss to beat Army 38-7.
Barrett was much improved over his performance in the 31-16 loss to Oklahoma.
The fifth-year senior broke Drew Brees’ Big Ten record for most touchdowns responsible for with 107 career touchdowns on his touchdown pass to Austin Mack in the fourth quarter.
“I honestly never really thought about breaking all of these records. I just wanted to come out here and win a lot of football games. I didn’t really picture this coming into Ohio State, but it’s been great,” he said.
The offense that seemed to sputter at times against Oklamoha amassed 586 total yards against the Black Knights.
Army was successful at times in extending drives with its triple-option attack but couldn’t compete with the more talented Buckeyes.
Dobbins rushed for 172 yards, marking his second career game of more than 100 yards. The performance included a 2-yard touchdown run in the first quarter and a 52-yarder in the third that gave the Buckeyes a 24-7 lead.
Ohio State (2-1, 1-0 Big Ten) hosts UNLV next Saturday at noon.
