No one hurt in two-alarm apartment fire

COLUMBUS – Fire officials reported that there were no injuries in a two-alarm fire in a far North Side apartment complex early Tuesday morning.

Fire broke out at 5:13 a.m. in an overheated vent in a dryer that was left running overnight in an apartment in a 16-unit building at the Pierpont Apartments, 8027 Solitude Drive, Battalion Chief Steve Martin said.

Martin says smoke detectors were “a huge factor in saving four lives at least” because two families were alerted by the alarms and escaped. The remaining residents of the building were awakened by the arrival of the firefighting equipment, he said.

There has been no immediate word on the extent of damage to the structure.

The fire was contained at approximately 7:00 a.m.
