COLUMBUS – A Columbus police officer fired a weapon at a suspect who fled after crashing his vehicle into a building on the Near East Side early Friday.
UPDATE 3/1/21 6:54 a.m.: The officer involved in this incidents has been identified as Ofc. Mackenzie Bozeman, a four-year veteran of the Division of Police.
The suspect was not hit and was arrested on charges of violating a protection order and illegally possessing a firearm, according to a tweet from the Division of Police.
Officers responding to a domestic disturbance report spotted the suspect and saw Brandon Richards crash his vehicle into a building at 796 E. Fulton Street at 1:42 a.m.
Richards, 19, ran away and an officer fired their weapon. Richards was arrested at the scene and a firearm was recovered.
The incident is being investigated by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations.
