COLUMBUS – The Columbus police officer under investigation for his role in the fatal shooting of a man in a West Side apartment last year has “retired in bad standing” from the Division of Police, according to a statement released Friday.

Twenty-year-old Donovan Lewis died in August after one of the officers who came to his home to arrest him on multiple warrants fired a second after opening his bedroom door.
Authorities said he appeared to be holding a vape pen, but no weapon.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation turned the findings of its investigation over to the Franklin County Prosecutor’s office in December where they are under consideration by a grand jury.
Man in critical condition after officer-involved shooting
UPDATE 3/6/23 10:50 a.m.: Police have released the names of the officers and suspect involved in this incident.
A man was listed in critical condition after being shot during an exchange of gunfire with Columbus police outside a Northeast Side bar early Saturday, police said.
Officers dispatched to Joes Pub & Grill in the 4000 block of E. Dublin-Granville Road at approximately 12:32 a.m. after several callers reported there was a male in the parking lot with a firearm, firing shots into the business, according to a release from the Division of Police public information office.
When the officers arrived at the scene, the suspect, identified as Mark Anthony Walter Sharpe, began firing shots towards the officers.
Officers Evan Romine, Tamer Khadre and Kenneth Sauer discharged their firearms, striking the suspect.
Officers rendered first aid until medics arrived and took Sharpe, 39, to an area hospital where he was in critical condition. His condition was upgraded to stable and he is expected to survive.
Sharpe has been charged with three counts of felonious assault.
A firearm was recovered near the suspect.
No other individuals and no officers were injured during the incident, police said.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is investigating the shooting.
