Officer injured in SE Side shooting

COLUMBUS – Columbus police are investigating the shooting of an officer outside a Southeast Side bar early Friday.

An officer working special duty at Moments Grill & Lounge, 2545 Petzinger Road, notified dispatchers at 12:01 a.m. that they had been shot, Division of Police spokesman Sgt. Joe Albert said.

UPDATE: 7/13/20 7:20 a.m.: The officer, identified as Ofc. Sontino Williams, a 19-year veteran, was recovering from his injuries, police wsaid

Dispatchers received multiple reports of shots fired in the area at the same time.

The first responding officers located the injured officer and transported them to Grant Medical Center in stable condition, Albert said.

A car on the parking lot was struck by gunfire, as was the business itself.

Additional officers arrived on scene and secured witnesses and evidence involved in the shooting.

The Crime Scene Search Unit and Assault Squad detectives responded and processed the scene.

No motive or any suspect information was available early Friday morning, Albert said.
