COLUMBUS – A Columbus police officer is recovering after being struck by a minivan while assisting a disabled vehicle on a downtown interstate Sunday night.
Officer Hansel Henry was outside of his marked cruiser and standing on the freeway assisting the motorist, with emergency red and blue beacon lights flashing, on I-670 westbound at the 4th Street ramp at 9:05 p.m. when accident investigators say Jose Antonio Coria Cadena lost control of his Honda Odyssey and struck the cruiser.
Henry was struck and suffered serious injuries, police said.
He was taken to Grant Medical Center in stable condition and is expected to survive.
No other injuries were reported.
The crash remains under investigation by the Accident Investigation Unit.
