Officer opens fire at East Side bar

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Columbus police are investigating a shooting incident involving a special-duty officer outside an East Side bar early Sunday morning.

UPDATE: This article has been updated to include the officer’s name.

Two officers approached a vehicle that was playing loud music outside Lucky’s Bar, 2600 S. Hamilton Road, around 2:14 a.m. when there was a fight and Ofc. Emanuel Woods fired his weapon at the suspect, who police say had a gun.

The victim was treated and released from Grant Medical Center.

An investigation by the division’s Critical Incident Response Team continues.

Woods is a two-year veteran and is assigned to the Patrol Bureau, police said.
