COLUMBUS, Ohio – A police officer shot and killed a knife-wielding man inside a home for developmentally disabled residents on Friday night.
Patrick Jones was shot when he confronted officers with a knife inside the group home operated by the Association for the Developmentally Disabled at 2272 Siskin Avenue just before 9:30 p.m., police spokesman Sgt. Rich Weiner said.
Weiner says a woman called police around 9:19 p.m., saying she had locked herself in a bathroom because a client was threatening to kill her.
Officer Solomon Seng, a one-year veteran of the division, shot Jones when he confronted officers near the front door of the residence, carrying a knife.
Officers attempted first aid but Jones, 47, was pronounced dead at the scene, Weiner said.
A knife was recovered at the scene.
Weiner says two care workers and another resident were at the home at the time of the shooting but no other injuries were reported.
