COLUMBUS (AP) — A confrontation between police and an armed teenage suspect on the Southeast Side early Wednesday ended with the suspect and an officer both shot and wounded but authorities say both are expected to survive.

The shooting occurred shortly after 3:00 a.m. in the 1400 block of S. Ohio Avenue, when officers responded to reports of shots fired in the area of Karns Park. When they arrived, the officers heard more shots.
After confronting the 17-year-old suspect, officers chased him into a nearby alley, where the shooting occurred.
The wounded officer, identified as Ofc. Garrett Kennedy, a 10-year veteran, and the suspect, whose name was not released, were both taken to Grant Medical Center, where the suspect was undergoing surgery and the officer was listed in stable condition.
The suspect remained in the hospital late Thursday.
No other injuries were reported in the shooting,
