COLUMBUS – Two Columbus police officers escaped injury when someone shot at their cruiser on the Southeast Side early Tuesday.
The officers were parked at the entrance to the First Church of God, 3480 Refugee Road, completing an incident report at approximately 3:05 a.m. when several shots rang out south of their location, Felony Assault Unit Det. Ian Pruitt said.
The marquee sign to the entrance of the church was struck and, when the officers went to the area from which the gunfire originated, they discovered several spent shell casings near the entrance to the Berwick Grove Apartments.
No cruisers were struck during the incident and no officers were injured, Pruitt said. The names of the officers’ were not released.
Two men were in critical condition after a shooting on the East Side Tuesday afternoon, police said.
Callers reported several gunshots in the area around a home in the 600 block of Rhoads Avenue at 4:39 p.m. and one man dragging another into a car which then left the scene, Det. Frank Miller said.
When they arrived, officers found a blood trail from the street to the front door of 670 Rhoads Avenue where they forced entry and discovered “a large scene” but no occupants, Miller said.
Two vehicles arrived at an area hospital a few minutes later with two gunshot victims.
Bobby Summerall, 26, and Dwayne Sullivan, 28, were immediately taken into surgery where they remained in critical condition early Wednesday, Miller said.
