COLUMBUS – Columbus police say officers have shot and killed an armed man during a confrontation at a Southeast Side apartment complex last night.
UPDATE: This article has been edited to include the names of the suspect and the officers.
It happened at approximately 7:42 p.m while officers were responding to a report of a man with a gun at the Lockhurst Village Apartments, 1185 Lockhurst Road (see map), division spokeswoman Denise Alex-Bouzounis said.

When Officers Cassie Scott and Linda Gutierrez arrived they say they spotted a man who matched the description of the suspect. A confrontation ensued on the lawn between Kawme Dejuan Patrick, 25, and the two officers and multiple shots were fired.
Patrick was transported to Grant Medical Center in critical condition where he was pronounced deceased at 8:48 p.m., Alex-Bouzounis said.
The officers were not injured.
Police say they recovered a gun at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing.
The incident will be investigated by the Critical Incident Response Team made up of specially trained investigators from the Homicide Units and the findings will be forwarded to the Firearms/Police-Involved Death Review Board and top division officials.
