COLUMBUS, Ohio – A man is in critical condition after being shot by Columbus police officers who say they saw him aiming a shotgun at passing motorists in the middle of a Southeast Side street late Thursday night.
Officers patrolling in the 4600 block of Refugee Road at about 10:45 pm saw the man standing in the road, pointing a shotgun at passing motorists, police spokesman Sgt., Rich Weiner said.
Two officers chased the man into a nearby apartment complex, and confronted him near the complex, where they fired multiple shots at him, Weiner said.
Weiner says a shotgun was recovered at the scene.
The man, who hasn’t been identified, was transported to Grant Medical Center
The officers weren’t injured.
Charges are pending further investigation, Weiner said.
