Ohio Deli fire

COLUMBUS, Ohio – No injuries have been reported after a fire that destroyed a landmark South Side restaurant.
early Tuesday morning.

Fire was first reported at the Ohio Deli, 3444 S. High Street, just before 3:15 and firefighters arrived to find smoke coming from the roof near the kitchen, Battalion Chief Tracy Smith said.

After entering the building, firefighters soon evacuated the structure and went into a defensive posture due to the intensity of the smoke and heat, Smith said. The building had a multi-layered roof and fire may have been burning between layers above the firefighters’ head, Smith said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation but the building is “a total loss,” Smith said.

Williams Road remained closed between High Street and Parsons Avenue during the cleanup.
