COLUMBUS – The number of Ohioans filing claims for unemployment benefits declined a miniscule amount after two weeks of increases, according to data the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services provided to the U.S. Department of Labor Thursday.
The state reported that 9,119 people filed initial claims during the week that ended Dec. 11, a 2% drop from the week before, and the total number of claims the department processed during the week declined 1.7%.
Nationwide, the number of Americans applying for unemployment benefits rose last week despite signs that the U.S. labor market is rebounding from last year’s coronavirus recession.
Jobless claims were up by 18,000 to a 206,000, still low by historical standards.
