Ohio man planned attack on police

CINCINNATI – The government says a southwest Ohio man has pleaded guilty to plotting attacks against a U.S. military official and a local police station.

Documents unsealed Thursday say Munir Abdulkader of West Chester was arrested in May 2015 and pleaded guilty in March.

Charging documents say Abdulkader, 21, pleaded guilty to attempting to kill officers and employees of the United States, material support of a foreign terrorist organization and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a violent crime.

Investigators say Abdulkader communicated with a member of the Islamic State and plotted to abduct and kill a military employee and attack a police station that was not identified.

Sentencing was set for October. A message was left with Abdulkader’s attorney seeking comment on the guilty plea.

According to court documents, Abdulkader communicated with the Islamic State group and an informant about a plan to kill abduct a military employee at the employee’s home and kill him, filming the execution.

After killing the employee, Abdulkader planned to execute a violent attack on a police station using firearms and Molotov cocktails.

In preparation for the attacks, authorities say Abdulkader asked the informant to purchase a vest for holding ammunition, traveled to a police station to conduct surveillance and went to a shooting range to learn how to operate certain firearms and practice shooting them firearms.

Investigators also say he provided $350 for the purchase of an AK-47 assault rifle and took possession of the weapon.

Adbulkader was arrested on May 21, 2015, by the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force the purchase of the assault rifle.
