Ohio reports first coronavirus death

COLUMBUS – The Ohio Department of Health is reporting the state’s first death from COVID-19.

The Ohio Department of Health call center is open 7 days a week from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. to answer questions regarding COVID-19 at 1-833-4-ASK-ODH (1-833-427-5634).

The patient was a prominent Toledo attorney who had recently traveled to California, Gov. Mike DeWine reported at his daily Statehouse news briefing.

DeWine was visibly moved as he explained that Mark Wagoner, 76, was an acquaintance.

Other possible deaths under investigation but none have been confirmed, Department of Health director Dr. Amy Acton said.

The department’s website reports there are currently 169 confirmed cases of coronavirus in 28 counties, including 14 in Franklin County and two in Delaware County.

The patients range in age from one to 91. One hundred of them are males and 69 are females.

Acton reported that 39 patients have been hospitalized.

The cases were reported in the following counties: Ashland (1), Ashtabula (1), Belmont (2), Butler (12), Clark (1), Coshocton (2), Cuyahoga (69), Darke (1), Delaware (2), Franklin (14), Geauga (1), Hamilton (7), Huron (1), Lake (3), Lorain (10), Lucas (2), Mahoning (7), Marion (1), Medina (6), Miami (1), Montgomery (1), Richland (1), Stark (6), Summit (10), Trumbull (3), Tuscarawas (1), Union (1), Warren (2)
