Ohio Stadium food features burgers inspired by opponents’ regional cuisine

COLUMBUS – Fans watching the Buckeyes at Ohio Stadium this season can enjoy some new menu items, including smoked ribs, a fried-bologna sandwich and an apple taco.

Levy, the company responsible for concessions at OSU sporting events, also offers them a chance to sample native cuisine from the part of the U.S. from which visiting teams hail.

If “cuisine” is really the word we’re looking for.

Levy’s “Taste of the Competition” carts on A and C Deck will offer up a special burger for each home game based on the cuisine from the visiting team’s region: a ground bison patty for Oregon State, fried pepperoni and mozzarella cheese for Rutgers, Levy director of communications Matt Dicker said.

This week’s opponent – the Indiana Hoosiers – will be “honored” with a BBQ beef patty with fried corn chards, smoked brisket and triple cheese sauce, Dicker said.

Levy’s “Taste of the Competition Burgers” for the rest of the season:
Minnesota (Oct. 13) – The “porky pig”: Ground beef patty topped with smoked pork, jalapeno deep fried cheese curds and garlic mayo
Nebraska (Nov. 3) – “The Omaha”: Ground beef patty topped with pastrami, charred cabbage, gruyere cheese and whole grain mustard aioli
Michigan (Nov.24) – “The southwest Detroiter”: Ground beef patty topped with a chorizo slider, pickled carrots & jalapenos, Munster cheese, tortilla chips, avocado and salsa Verde

Levy added several new menu items this season, including the French Onion Dog, the Ruben Dog and thick cut fried bologna sandwiches, Dicker said.

Fans can also try smoked ribs and sandwiches from a 600-pound smoker installed on A Deck, said Dicker and Molly Kurth, the vice president of Levy’s NCAA operations and the company’s national co-chair.

The new menu also includes a dessert called an apple pie taco which consists of a sweetened shell with apple pie filling inside, Kurth told The Lantern.

Levy partners with more than a dozen local vendors to provide food items at Ohio Stadium during the football season, including Ear Goes Nothing (Ohio corn with a variety of spices and flavorings), Topped Dog (bologna sandwiches), Bake Me Happy, Dos Hermanos, Buckeye Wraps and Skyward Grill, Dicker said.
