Ohio unemployment falls to under 5.0%

COLUMBUS – Ohio’s unemployment rate dropped to 4.8% in November as employers added jobs for the third consecutive month.

Businesses hired 12,200 workers, bringing the total number of residents who reported being employed to 5.391 million from a revised 5.378 million in October.
The number of unemployed workers fell by 14,000 to 275,000, according to data from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

The unemployment rate in October was 5.1% and has fallen steadily since May.

The largest increases were in construction and leisure and hospitality as the economy continues to recover from the pandemic-related slowdown.

The U.S. unemployment rate in November was 4.2%.
