Ohio virus cases continue to soar

COLUMBUS (AP) — Ohio has continued to see spiking cases of the coronavirus despite pleas from the governor for people to help slow the spread.

Data from the COVID Tracking Hub, which breaks down several pandemic trends by state, shows that over the past two weeks, Ohio’s 7-day rolling average of daily new cases rose from 2,084 new cases per day on Oct. 22 to 3,748 new cases per day on Nov. 5.

The data also shows that Ohio’s 7-day rolling average of the positivity rate has also risen over the past two weeks from just under 5% on Oct. 22 to just under 8% on Nov. 5.

Another record number of new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 were reported Saturday.

The state Monday reported 4,706 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 for a total of 254,974 with 5,524 deaths and 20,651 total hospitalizations.

There are 2,533 patients currently hospitalized with the virus, 235 more than Sunday, occupying 9.46% of inpatient capacity. There are 63,196 active cases statewide.
