Ohio’s birthday bash

COLUMBUS – Ohio marked its 214th anniversary as a member of the union on Wednesday but the Statehouse has planned a celebration this weekend that features tours and other activities.

Ohio’s 214th Birthday Party: Sunday, March 5, 12:00 – 3:00 p.m. Ohio Statehouse. Admission is free. Parking is available in the Ohio Statehouse parking garage.

Those who attend (with or without party hats) will participate in art projects, experience an “Ohio symbols” Statehouse tour and explore the Statehouse Museum with a scavenger hunt.

Organizations, including the Columbus and Hilliard historical societies and the Orton Geological Museum at OSU, have planned activities and will provide travel information and educational exhibits.

Event schedule and location:
12:00 – 3:00 p.m. – Activity Tables, Atrium – Create an Ohio birthday hat and join in activities
2:00 – 3:00 p.m. – Birthday Treats, Rotunda – Ohio trivia quiz and birthday treats
12:00 – 4:00 p.m. – Free Guided Tours, Map Room
Public tours of the Ohio Statehouse will begin at 12, 1, 2 and 3 p.m.
Ohio symbols tours will begin at 12:30 and 1:30 p.m.
Pick up a Statehouse Scavenger Hunt to complete while you explore Ohio’s capitol.

Partitioned from the Northwest Territory, the state was admitted to the union as the 17th state, and the first under the Northwest Ordinance, on March 1, 1803.
