COLUMBUS – Restrictions on shopping and mobility have kept Ohioans shut inside their homes, except for walks and essential errands, for more than six weeks and has everyone looking for new ways to entertain themselves and their families.
The Ohio History Connection recommends trying some old ways, the kind families used in the days before automobiles, video games, computers or even electricity.
During the Victorian era of the 19th Century, parlor games were often played with guests at parties but would have been played with family groups as well.
The modern equivalent of a parlor would be the front room of a house, the living room or family room.
Many of the games, such as whist as “Beggar My Neighbor,” involved playing cards while others resembled versions of “I Spy” or “Marco Polo.”
