One arrest in slaying of elderly couple

COLUMBUS, Ohio – While one of the suspects in a double murder in eastern Ohio is behind bars, the other is still at large and considered armed and dangerous.

Jeffery Stewart (above), 21, of New Philadelphia, is in the Tuscarawas County Jail after being arrested Saturday by members of a multi-agency task force trying to solve the murders of Doyle and Lillian Chumney, of Strasburg, whose bodies were found in their burned vehicle on a remote Coshocton County road last month, according to a release from the office of Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine.

Stewart was identified with assistance from the public after task force members released a surveillance photograph of him, DeWine said.

A murder warrant has been issued for the arrest of Robert Clark, 29, of Dennison (left), whom authorities say should be considered armed and extremely dangerous. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call 911.

Investigators say Stewart and Clark are believed to be responsible for the murders of Doyle Chumney, 88, and Lillian Chumney, 79, who were reported missing from their Tuscarawas County home on Jan. 21. Their bodies were discovered in their burned vehicle on a secluded road in Bakersville the next day.
